Sunja's Space:

~August 31, 2009

So, we remembered why we switched to only ONE day a week for updating.

Sorry to say, we are going from Mondays and Thursdays, to only Mondays. Rask and I were looking at our quickly depleting buffer in a panic.

It would have been one thing if this were happening and we weren't still working on more to replace the ones we've put up...but we're both actively working, and there's no way we can keep up two a week.

I think if we had maintained the lesser quality that we used to have, it would be possible, but we are trying to carry this comic to a new level.

So! We hope you all understand when we would like to put the quality over quantity.

In any case, this is one of my favorite pages. Zeta is pretty amusing, and Rask and I both had a good time making fun of his, "Look at me!" pose.

Rask's Blog

So I lied, but here's my stupid blog.  This weekend was crazy and this was the furthest thing from my mind.

There are 4 parts to the photoshop documents I currently send Sunja every week for these pages, and I complete them in the following order:
1.  Line-art
2.  Panel borders
3.  Rough grayscale
4.  Speech bubbles

The speech bubbles that I include are hastily-drawn, there as an indicator of where they should lie on the page.  (Since I ultimately lay the pages out, I plan for the bubbles to be where they are.)  I also scribble in a general idea of what part of the script goes where in these bubbles.

From sketch to finish, it takes me well over 5 hours to complete a page.  As you can imagine, by the time I get to the speech bubbles, I’m so eager to get it done that all the professionalism I displayed when laying out, sketching, and inking the page has pretty much evaporated.

Annnd sometimes I leave quite interesting versions of the actual script in the speech bubbles.  >.> This page in particular is a prime example… I determined that Josh looks like the Sham-wow guy and that Zeta should have elf ears on this page.  I chuckled to myself while I did it.  I should really get out more.
